SUMMER ART SHOW

For the past two years, I have been steadily creating watercolor and mixed media paintings on the weekends and after teaching at school. As you can imagine, I have built up quite a collection in my studio and felt it was time to put my work out into the world to share with others. The annual Guilford Art League Art Exhibit on the town green in Guilford, Connecticut provided the perfect opportunity.

For the art show this year, I set up a 10x10 ft canopy for sun protection, a 4 ft long folding table, and a small bistro table for displaying my tiny artwork and giclee prints.

I purchased a few 4 panel peg board dividers and originally planned to have them stabilized on the ground under the tent. When I created a mock set up in my yard at home, I quickly realized any trace of wind would knock them over. So after some thought, I separated the dividers in half and hung each panel section from the base of the canopy top with large S hooks. This allowed the panels to swing softly in the breeze and I could easily move the panels around the perimeter of the tent if needed.

For the display tables, paint drop cloths in natural canvas were cut to size for each table which made for a cohesive look and hid any supplies stored underneath.

My canopy top had a silver lining on the underside, which is great for sun and inclement weather, but gave a blue cast to the outside fabric of the canopy, which was suppose to be white. I painted the canopy in a similar color to the natural canvas drop cloths and painted botanical elements with white paint. It was a happy surprise to discover the flower and leaf shadows on the roof when inside the tent! For a final touch, 3 battery operated pendant lamps with woven shades were added to the peak of the canopy for a cozy feel.

I had a wonderful time meeting new people, seeing old friends and getting to know the other artists. I look forward to being back next summer!

Artwork on display at the art show is now available in my shop.
